    Fun To Build( pics)

I saw this project in a copy of Canadian Home Workshop magazine that I bought at a yard sale a couple of years ago. I thought at the time that it would be a fun way to use up scraps. So here are the pictures of my coffee shelf.

These two pictures were in the shop and I was waiting for the finish to cure. Nothing fancy in the construction. It's all pine and the butt joints are held together with glue and screws. I cut out templates for the curved parts because I have a feeling this will not be the only shelf I make.

I hung it on the basement wall for a couple more pics. I used some older pine that was laying around and it helped to antique the piece. I appled a light brown stain and when it cured I brushed over with a coat of paint, which I sanded off in places when it dried.

This last picture was only a shameless plug for Doctor Who

    Thanks for having a look.

Very nice. Love the finish and the aged appearance.

NICE! I'd love to build that, but LOML refuses to let me replace the "coat hanger" she has in our utility room.....

That's a great way to use up "scraps," as you put it - well done, Richard!

You're right, it probably won't be the last one. Nice work! How'd you get so much scrap that was so "clear"? And one more thing...pretty cool pegs...were those scraps too?

Great use of 'scraps'. I like the looks of the finish.

Thanks guys. It was getting late when I posted this last night so I let the pictures say most of it. When I say scraps, really they were pallet wood shorts. There were loads of nail holes that I had to fill and I was able to stategiclly cut around most of the knots. The pegs were from a bag that LOML found at at charity shop some time ago and even the paint was left over from a room we repainted. The back panals were shorts from a decorating project. The only "new" stuff was the wood glue, a dozen screws, and two hangers.

Very nice, clean lines and very functional. I also have a penchant for using scraps that many would discard.

                Well done...

                    Very nice piece!
I am going to steal a little of the top design for a baseball trophy and bat display I am bulding for my son.
I use a lot of reclaimed wood from shipping crates we get at work.I couldn't afford to build as many things without this source of free lumber.
I think therefore I .....awwww where is that remote.

Looks good, but I don't see a Tardis key hanging there.

Why don't you use scraps to build a miniture Tardis to go with your collection?
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.
