    Whiskey Cabinet

    Hi all,

Here's some pics of a cabinet I have just finished designed for keeping things like single malt or Kentucky sippin' whiskey in.
The cabinet itself is made from Southern Mahogany, an Australian native timber, with book-matched Silky Oak (Lacewood) panels in the doors. The stand is made from Australian Red Ironbark.
The finish is Scandinavian oil and wax.
The unit is approx 1.6m tall. The cabinet itself is 600mm long x 400mm high x 200mm deep.
All joints and the dados for the door panels were done using a Festool Domino.

    Regards,

    Rob

That's a really sharp looking cabinet. I like the floating upper design. Those Austrailian woods certainly are nice.

Are there any issues with stability when the doors are open at 90 degrees to the front? The piece isn't very deep.

Is that your sippin' glass next to the Johnny Walker?

Rob, that is one great cabinet!

Thanks for sharing a work of art. Also looks like you could wall hang or counter top placement. Great work and hope you make some to sell...

        Hi Pelligrini,
There are no problems with the stability of the unit when the doors are open Admittedly, its a narrow unit on a tall base. I have thought of adding somew small feet to it, but it seems OK.
As for my sippin' glass, it wouldn't fit in the cupboard!

        Regards,

        Rob

I did a little reading up on a few of those woods you listed. It appears that the Southern Mahogany, and Australian Red Ironbark are really dense hardwoods. I bet they're pretty heavy.

            Hi Pellegrini,
The Ironbark is very heavy, but the Mahogany isn't too bad. Maybe I'm just used to Aussie hardwoods.
BTW, I like the Plecostomus cat.

Unique and very eye-pleasing design to the stand. The cabinet is beautiful. Fantastic grain in the panels!

As you Aussies say 'good on ya, mate'! Did I just make a complete and utter fool of myself? So what else is new.
                Beautiful piece!
