    Cherry Frame w/ Wenge splines

My Niece (12) drew this for my wife's and my birthdays, my brother put it into plastic frame (what was he thinking??). The frame broke before it got to my house, so I used my recently built framing jigs to throw this frame together from some left overs. The miters turned out great, the splines worked perfectly. The finish is 2 coats of water borne tinted shellac and 4 coats of Ultima Spray Lacquer, have I mentioned that I love this stuff?

            water borne tinted shellac

Another finish I know nothing about. How does it work? I thought shellac was alcohol-based.

Excellent workmanship, as usual. I really like the contrast of the splines.

Perhaps it's the angle, but, the first picture looks like the drawing might be slightly crowded in the frame.

Nice to see you could put that book to good use.

Beautiful, Keith, both the frame and the etching!

Nice frame Keith! Your neice is one heck of an artist to produce that and be 12! She deserves plenty of praise IMHO.

Thanks guys, I thought it was pretty awesome for a 12 year old as well, just my interest in giving it a proper frame.

As to the finish, here's the shellac

                            http://www.targetcoatings.com/sealer_ox_shellac.html

                            And here's the "lacquer"

                            http://www.targetcoatings.com/oxford-spray-lacquer.html

I figured the Wenge would be a good combo for the black matte.
