    Mitre Station

Here is what I made this weekend. I started with Ed's design but simplified it. I opted for no folding wings since I won't move it that much. It is sized as long as it can be (43") and still fit where I will store it. I may add some removeable fence extensions, I will see if I need them. I also still need to make a stop block and I want to add hold-down clamps to hold stock. Bottom and sides are 3/4" ply. Top is 1/2" MDO.

The fence extension is some angle aluminum I've had kicking around for a while. Drilled and countersunk to attach to the top.

Nice and functional, David; it doesn't get better than that!

Yeah - my working tools don't have to be pretty. They just have to be functional and clean (at least for the most part). Pretty is a bonus. Maybe one day I will get around to rounding the corners over, but probably not. Oh yeah, and handles. I definitely need to add handles.

Nice unit David, I made one similar and it comes in very handy.

Yours looks rather lower than mine, dont you find it hurts your knees using it down there?

Looks good, David. That's another one of those "when I have the room" projects for me.

              Nice setup!

How did you get the extensions to match up to the saw table height? (I could ask that question for every project I see. It's a source of constant wonder for me.)

So where do you store it? I'm not doing well with tools that are deployed for use then returned to a storage location. I'm on the lookout for how others do this.

Measured the saw height then ripped the sides to width. Saw height minus the thickness of the bottom. I made them slightly oversize, then did a rip to dial it in. The shims are under the saw to give more meat for the lag screws and to make cleaning underneath it a tad easier.

I store it on the shelf of the bench it is sitting on. I am thinking about adding a shelf above it but not sure there is enough clearance for it to be useful.
