    Fijian Rimu Box sorta finished

    Hi all,
This is a box/display cabinet I'm working on at present. It could be regarded as finished now, but I intend to add a drawer in the bottom left hand corner and make a stand for it as well.
Plantation grown Rimu, (which is originally from NZ and now protected) is new to our shores. Saws, planes, glues and routes very well. One problem NZ native Rimu had was that it did not like being moved from place to place. It would move or split terribly. It will be interesting to see how this goes.
The back is Black Hearted Sassafras, a native Australian timber.
The finish is Wattyl Scandinavian oil, friction sealed up to 4000g. The unit has not yet been waxed. I think you can see how high a shine this technique can give you in a couple of the shots.
The shot of the interior and that of the back were taken before oiling.

    Regards,

    Rob

You have access to some great looking wood, I'm very jealous.

    Nice work BTW.

            Hi again,
Here it is with doors and a stand. The panels in the doors are Sassafras, same as the back of the box.

Just a final shot with the Kauri drawer in place. Now all I need to do is allocate a day for wax finishing.

                Regards,
