My third project is almost finished, and as there haven't been many projects posted lately, I thought of putting this up. The table main components are cherry, with some walnut thrown in. The lower shelf, the brackets under the top keeping it off the skirt, and the trim around the center cherry section in the top are all walnut. The table top ends are breadboards, pinned on with a center fixed dowel and two dowels on the ends in enlarged holes in the top. The frame (carcass) is all mortise and tenon, and the lower shelf is also basically extended mortise and tenon. The slight curve on the long edges of the top are also mirrored in the walnut edging. This required the use of several templates and two different router bushing guides and trim bits to get complementary curves before glue up. I have rubbed in boiled linseed oil to give the finish a little warmth and depth (no dyes or stains) before finishing with an alkyd varnish (not applied yet).

Elegant. The "floating" top works really well in this design.- David

That is really a super nifty piece of work. If you can, please explain the breadboarding you did, it sounds somewhat different to the technique I'm used to.
I really admire that table.
