    Some projects of mine

    Hi all,
I am new here and thought the best way to start was to show some of my work. I live in Melbourne Australia and have been woodworking for about 4 years. (time flies!!)
Anyway, the first is my interpretation of a Krenov display cabinet, made with Sydney Blue Gum and Tasmanian Blackwood. The second is a Sofa/Hall table made of Tassie Blackwood with Red Gum breadboards.
The 3rd is a small drawer unit made with red gum and with a black walnut drawer face.

    Regards,

    Rob

Beautiful work, Rob! Love the exotic (to me) wood. And welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Nice work, the contrasting wood types really sets the projects off.

Very nice Rob.. I have seen several of the woods you used as I have been "down under" twice. It's very nice to see various wood species that are not what we call domestic. What did you finish with, BTW?

        Welcome and enjoy...

Very nice work.. very nice indeed...

nice! i like that table that you build in the third picture. are the ends on that table floating or are they glued to the end grains of the middle portion?

the contrasting wood is definately a plus.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone.

Sarge, the finish is Wattyl Scandinavian Oil friction sealed by Random Orbital sanding. I sand to 400g then add the oil to saturation after which I wet/dry sand using the oil as the "wet" through to 4000g.
The final finish is a local product which is a mixture of waxes. I wait 24hrs before using the wax and then do several coats over a week or so. The end result is quite resilient to normal wear and tear.

Shadowfox, I strongly recommend making a Krenov piece, it will alter your views of how to make furniture forever.

                        Regards,

Nice to have you join us. It is interesting to see different "woods-of-the-world" and what woodworkers do with them. YOU, put the woods to good use! Very nice work.
