    Black Walnut Hall Table

Here's a black walnut hall table I just completed for a wedding gift for the son of a good friend. Simple Shaker style table with cherry butterfly inlays. The pics aren't very good but they'll have to do until I can update them.

      Very nice.

Can't show that to LOML, or she'll have me building one. Not that it would be a bad thing, but I have too many projects already.

Sure would have liked to have gotten that for a wedding present. Nice job. Looks great.

I like it! Natural finish or stained?

I have a bunch of walnut that I'd like to do something interesting with.

Thanks gang. Jack - I hit it with a couple of coats of Watco walnut Danish oil to help darken the inlays and to even out the color of the BW. Jim - This was a fairly simple project that you can pound out fairly quickly. (unlike the hall bench I did last month that had 36 M&T joints! )

              That is a beautiful table.

This is one of those projects where I would like to see it in another fifty years. You know, when the wood ages, and the piece takes a few hits here and there? I know it is beautiful now, but can you imagine how stunning it is going to be when it has the character of a fifty year old piece?

BTW, that is a pretty nice gift for the kid of a friend. You're kinda setting the bar pretty high.

He's a really good friend, and is also my youngest daughter's Godfather. He's also a woodworker who has given me all kinds of great wwing goodies over the years! (otherwise, yeah...that bar would normally be way high for me too! )

Thanks for the comments...with any luck, I'll be around to see it in 50 years!

Nice! The butterflies are really nice looking - contrast without hitting you over the head.

It might be simple and relatively quick, but you haven't seem my project list. And for every project that I finish, 3 or 4 take it's place. But really, I love the clean, simple lines.

Love it! The butterflies really make it soar. Understated elegance all around.

Beautiful... love the walnut... love the inlay.. love the delicate taper of the legs and especially love the way you broke the arc in the apron with a recess. I love that hard-wood floor also but that's beside the point.

And agree that as beautiful as it is now... it will develope into a piece with even more glow as the walnut matures with age.

                        Extremely well done...

Nice job! Exactly as all others have already said. The apron just looks "right"!
