    My First Commisson

I was searching CL for woodworking items and noticed an ad for somebody looking for a WWer for a project. He has a collection of old instruments and wanted a base built for this keyboard for an organ which was nothing but the workings. I thought it would be fun and earn some cash in the process.

I finished it this evening and here is the result. I took a few snaps as it will be delivered tomorrow.

I guess I will have to give up my amateur status, if not my day job.

Nice work, Jon! First commission, odds are you undercharged.

Very nice work. Like Pappy, said, odds are you didn't receive as much as you could have but I can relate to that.

Very nice work indeed! Now you can buy more tools and claim them as work expense

Wow! I'd be willing to bet that there are more people out there that would love to have a cabinet made like that for their keyboards, too!

Jon, that's a great piece of work!

The roundover and slant give it character. The color is right, not light like some I've seen. Bet ya didn't get what you should've, but that's how you learn. Again, great piece of work.

Thanks for all the kind remarks. This was fun to do and didnt really take that long. I know I undercharged ($250) given the time and effort but thats all he could afford (really).

Due to some tight time constraints on his part I actually saved some time and effort. I was orginally going to use a hand rubbed finnish but that would have meant 24hrs between coats adding at least 5 days. He had a deadline so I used gloss wipe on poly which is recoatable in 2-3hrs and then added a wax topcoat.

There is no chance of being able to earn enough to give up the day job but as one of you said it will help pay for tools:-)

Nice idea but then I would need to claim the income too! It may be a bit early for that, not sure the IRS would be impressed with $1000s of dollars worth of tools with only $250 income.

Yup - and that is part of my day job which I charge a lot more $$s for.
