    New Kitchen Island

It isn't quite done yet but I thought you might like a picture or two. My kitchen was site built 9 years ago with the house. It is OK but not up to my standards. A whole kitchen is not in my plans but a new island seemed like a reasonable project. Drawers (8) are dovetailed front and back with my HF jig. Outside is solid cherry with cherry veneer masonite panels (I liked the veneer better than the 1/4 plywood my supplier had). Drawer fronts are figured cherry, sides and back are 1/2 baltic birch plywood. Stucture was 3/4 baltic birch plywood. No drawer slides, construction is like a dresser with dust panels. There is an outlet in each end. One picture is from before the shoe moulding (made today, finish is drying) and a new granite slab top (instead of the granite tile). The other pictures are after the shoe moulding was installed (today). Granite slab will be awhile, it is not ordered yet, probably won't be until LOML gets summer vacation.

Again... very well done and quite and eye-catcher for anyone that would walk or crawl into the kitchen.

Beautiful work, Jim! I like the fact that the Cherry is cleared in to let it age on its own, rather being stained. The figure in both the drawer fronts and the panels is fantastic.

I love cherry, and that figured cherry is really popping. Very nice addition to the kitchen.

That's a beautiful addition to the kitchen, Jim - and great eye for detail in matching the "toe kick" area to the existing cabinets. Wish I had room for something like that in my kitchen!

That's some very very nice wood coupled with some fine craftsmanship. Good going. Pat

Man, that kitchen now screams, "Do the rest of the cabs, too!" Sorry, couldn't resist.

I think he was wanting to avoid that for a bit. . .oops
