After many requests, I finally got around to making a small vanity to replace the one that came with our house. As you can see, it isn't installed yet but that day too shall come. The frame is cherry, and the top and panels are spalted maple with quite a bit of worminess. The wood came from logs milled off of my neighbor's property. I stained the cherry with a gel stain from General, and the whole piece is spray-coated with pre-catalyzed lacquer. This was a learning piece for me - the second item I have made.

Nice job!
You going to go with a wall mounted faucet? I hear that those are a lot of fun to install.ErikComment

The faucet will be mounted off to the side of the sink - I just haven't had the courage to drill another hole in the top yet. And the taper on the legs was acccomplished simply by drawing lines to show the tapers, cutting away close to the line on a bandsaw, and finish sanding on a vertical captive belt sander. It was easier to do I think than setting up a taper jig on a table saw.Comment

You might look at the wall mounted faucets. We've used Kohler's falling water faucet in a couple projects. Pricey, but it's a really neat look.
No more holes in the top either.ErikComment

That is truely stunning! Very artistic use of such very different woods - ruggedness and elegance combined into a beautiful piece. Let's see, where do you live again?Blessings,

That is beautiful work. I love the contrasting woods. After seeing that I think I will finally go cull the spalted wood from my firewood pile and see what I can make from it.David
