i wanted to make a patio table at one time too, but ayesha (LOML) told me to got get the furniture in the house made first and then she would think about it.... so maybe one day when my long list of things shrinks, i can add it to the list.

In AZ the patio furniture gets used more than most others. I know we use ours every day.

is this table going to be in the sun all time or is it under a shaded patio? i was wondering about the finish, and how long it would last in the sun.

Its a poly/oil mixture. it will mostly live under the shaded patio. The sun does creep under so I guess I should remember to turn it every now and again. I went for a simple penetrating finish so it would only take a few minutes to add a coat from time to time.

I have another ~50 bd/ft that should be enough to make a full size table although I may make the subframe from redwood. The table should be no problem but now LOML is asking what about chairs to match

Poolhound, what type of wood did you use.

The wood is aromatic cedar. Its rather "knotty" but most are hard and IMHO it rather adds to the look. The colors are very dramatic as are the grain patterns. The finish is a simple poly/oil mix and really brings out the natural colors.

That is a great idea and nicely executed. I am going to suggest something similar to my sister. She has a firepit and was looking for a cover for it.

Very nice project Jon. I like it. It kinda has that old west look. After taking 16 trips to the Phoenix area over a 2 year period, I know what you mean about how the weather is out there & how cool it gets. I dated a girl that lived there in "Snottsdale"

I like it a lot. I also very jealous because I so wanted a fire pit worked into our back deck when we built it a few ago. Unfortunately, in our friggin' neighborhood they're illegal. Time to move to Arizona.

You are welcome to come on over and try it out although its just starting to warm up here with temps now in the low 90s. Pretty soon the last thing you will want is a fire .
