    Southern Cross Chest of Drawers...

A hobbyist with lack of skills at most.. but no lack of enthusiasm to build something simple.. clean and functional with local woods. A simple man has simple taste.

Carcass.. Storm-kill southern red oak Drawers.. scrap popolar.. Drawer slides and runners.. scrap soft maple.

Front & rear face frames are M&T... drawer runners and slides are attached with M&T.. bridles and dado's.. Drawer knobs are dimentioned to match drawer front size and made from scrap.

"When you see the Southern Cross for the first time
You understand now why you came this way
'Cause the truth you might be runnin' from is so small
But it's as big as the promise, the promise of a comin' day"

Back to the shop as the promise of a tall chest looms on the horizon of a comin' day!

So where's the one that exhibits the lack of skill??????

Very nice, Sarge. It shows the craftsman's touch throughout.

Thanks everyone as I just came up from the shop. The First Ladies critique was favorable with the exception of the pictures themselves. I took them early afternoon in the shop with the sun streaming in on the chest. I turned off the over-head lights to cut down the glare.. but I know little about photography or how to fix it for computer shots.

She lightened them a bit to see what happens.. so I am post a duplicat front shot of the chest just to see if that helps. The chest is a shade or so lighter than the original pictures. I don't mind cutting Dove-tails all day and all night.. but this photography thing is obviously not my cup of tea according to the more intelligent member of the duo.

So... these duplicates are a test!

Thanks much to everyone that replied...

Edit.. didn't cut that glare from sunlight coming through the window.. Oh well.. I will work on photography for the next 35 years or so.. ha.. ha... ha..ha..ha..

Thanks to all for the kind words that replied after I said the initial thank you's.. if that makes sense. I'm taking the day off from the shop to just rest as I have been "holed up" down there for almost 5 months with a few weeks off at Xmas and cure times.

I' m just tired.. and a day or so of rest should see me back down there as the tall, single row version is already simmering in the pot. Doesn't take all that long to build the main carcasss.. but details.. details.. details toward the end and finishings adds some serious time that requires strong doses of patience.

Thanks once again to all that replied....

Wow, Sarge. I wish I had your lack of skill. Well done.
By the way, what finish did you use?
