Rocking chair in process, The final

This is the last of this project save for the relaxing
Finish is multiple coats of an alcohol based red dye, followed by two coats of pre cat. lacquer. Finally it got rubbed out with 0000 steel wool and waxed with .......... KIWI cordovan shoe polish. Highly buffed out with an old white t-shirt. It's actually a pretty deep burgandy in person. This is a big change from my normal clear lacquer finishes. It was kinda scary actually. A friend did a sample shot on some scrap and convinced me to take the plunge. Don't want a house full of furniture finished this way but I kinda like how it turned out on the white oak. Pat

That looks really nice. is the Kiwi "grippy" and does it wipe off on clothes? It always seemed to leave streaks on my uniforms from my boots.

I love it! I won't worry about the color either. It makes a great accent piece, especially if most of the other furniture in the room are neutral or natural-toned. I might put a cream-colored pillow on it, but that's only because I watch too much HGTV.

That is a gutsy finish with the shoe polish. I would be really nervous about sitting in it with a white shirt. How is it that it doesn't come off? The color looks wonderful

Pretty darn nice (OK, that didn't come out burgandy at all), Pat!!

Wellll, thanks for all the nice comments. For the time being I have the chair sitting at a friends custom cabinet shop and it's gotten alot of use. No streaks of color on anyone's clothes. Works just like any other paste wax. Pat

                        looks sharp!

so you used 0000 steel wool and dipped in wax and rubbed, is that correct?

I buffed out the lacquer with 0000 steel wool and then waxed and buffed with an old cotton t-shirt. Pat

It turned out very well, and I love the color. I agree with others, it works very well as an accent piece.
