    New flight box

Once again, one hobby has helped out the other! My other flight box was nice, but heavy. I decided to design/build a new one that would be lighter, physically smaller and still hold everything the original did and finally, fit in the same space in the back of the truck.
Over all, I met my goals. It is marginally lighter, but is easier to get in/out of the truck due to the smaller size. It holds everything the other one did. It will fit in the same spot, but to do so I had to make a two piece handle.

The base is 3/4" ply and most of the rest is 1/8" ply with a bit of 1/4" thrown in. Most of the material came out of the "recycle bin" so cost was minimal.

No, I'm not an Auburn fan even though the color might lead you to believe it. Belinda decided on the colors so it would match the dragon tatto I got.

Notice on the side view the "kill stickers". Yes, I now have three confirmed kills and sincerely hope I don't reach ace status!!!!!

The new flight box looks great Larry! I must admit... at first glance I was thinking Florida Gators! Of course, being in the heart of Wildcat country... neither Florida nor Auburn colors would be acceptable around here.
Happy to have all 9 1/2 fingers!

Nice box, the colors look like Boise State Broncos colors, or even Denver Broncos That is a neat box though very will thought out. How heavy is it?

Thanks! It was good practice for the jewelry box I need to make for Belinda. It was also a fun exercise in design. For a change, I didn't sketch anything up; it was engineered and built on the fly.

The box itself isn't too heavy, maybe 15 pounds. It's when I get all my stuff in it that the weight REALLY jumps! The starter, starter battery and fuel jug are the heaviest pieces. So all up, I'm thinking 30-35 pounds. That's still lighter than the other box and it's smaller size makes it alot easier to lift.

GREAT looking flight box. Looks like you are going professional!

I had to laugh at the thought of "physically smaller" knowing how things "expand". I want to see what you create next year as the hobby box grows smaller!

. . . Will you go from a two wheeler to a golf cart?

Well Hank, just for the record, my friend Eddy is designing a trailer for me as I type this!

Have you gotten in the air yet?? I just got a new 12 channel radio, an Airwolf fuselage for the T-Rex and almost all the stuff for my Sea King project (still waiting on the main blade set and flex drive for the tail).

I'm working on the Air Wolf while I wait for the rest of the Sea King stuff.

By the way you say this I'm going to assume a kill is when you crash / destroy your own?!?

Still it looks nice, but not the colors.

Great looking box, Larry. It reminds me of my surf fishing cart. All was fine once I put some balloon type tires on it. Then I broke it's back carrying a full ice chest too along with all the other fishing gear. While the contents of an ice chest lend itself well to surf fishing, I doubt it would work so well with flying. Loosing a fish or a leader rig is one thing, adding to the kill tally on small helo's is a whole nuther can of worms.

Yes Ric, each "kill sticker" represents a crash. So far, they have been limited to the smallest (and least expensive to repair) helicopter. Nice thing about helicopters over airplanes is that they bolt/screw together. When damaged, you just remove the damaged part and bolt on a new one. It has to be a REALLY bad crash to get a "total".

Now, crashes to the bigger models can get expensive. One flying buddy crash two helos a week apart to the tune of about $400. Both are back in the air and flying as good as new.

Lee, guess you get a "kill sticker" for your cart!
