    New Kitchen

I'm calling this 95% done. Flooring comes in on the first of April (vinyl sheet) then I'll be able to install the toe kicks. I just haven't found ceiling lights that I like yet so those aren't done yet either.
The layout stayed basically the same as the old, no major changes other than the type of cabinets. I wanted all drawers on the bottom, after all these years I'm tired of bending down to look into the back of cabinets trying to find stuff. I extended the upper cabinets to the ceiling, adds alot of space for that stuff that only gets broken out on holidays. The corner of the base is empty. I looked into lazy susan cabinets and other fancy stuff and decided that it was better to leave and empty hole that nobody will ever see.
All drawer slides are Accuride, hinges are Blum.
Carcases are shop grade birch. End and door panels are 1/4" knotty pine paneling from Lowes. Face frames and door frames are old #2 common 1 x 6 pine from the rack at Lowes.
Trim on the bottom of the uppers and just below the small crown is jatoba (Brazilian cherry)
Counter tops are Wilsonart Milano Blaze with a full bullnose.
    Finish is pre-cat lacquer.
Sink is a Kohler cast iron that I got for half price at Lowes, had a couple of scratches in the enamel.

real nice! i didnt realize how beautiful pine would look like as cabinets! the light color real helps to brighten the area. i love the two pull out on the left of the stove and my wife loves the trash bin cabniet that you designed.

i can seem to see the detail of the pine paneling in the door where the vertical pattern meeds the raised trim on the inside of the top and bot rail on the doors. is there a gap at that point?

Looks great. Very impressive for common construction lumber from the rack at Lowe's also. You should be proud, and I imagine you saved a ton by building them all yourself eh? How does the wife like it?

I like the look! Now one question, where was this material in Lowe's? The select area or general? If general, did you do anything to further dry it?
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

There is a slight gap where the milled elements of the paneling go behind the bead trim.

The total cost of the kitchen so far and this includes the flooring that hasn't arrived is about $2500 give or take a $100. Got rid of the the wife 4 years ago so I only have to please myself.
The pine for the FF and doors was from the common lot, not the select. I was concerned about moisture content but I must have run into a very good lot of lumber because it was all dry. The paneling was on a different aisle. Pat

A job well done. That is a nice set of cabinets for $2500. I like the look of them.

Nice looking cabinets. I really like the look of the lighter wood, darker appliances, and the blue paint. Quite stylish!

Very nice. I've built furniture from the same sort of softwood lumber and been pleased with the result. Some of it is over 20 years old. They turned amber with age but still look good to me.

                        Pat,

                        What a difference! Looks great.

My bathroom is done, mudroom is close to done so kitchen is next on the list. LOML has already torn out the goofy suspended ceiling in the kitchen. I think that was a not so subtle hint. This week is only our 1 year anniversary in this house. not sure what her problem is.

Give up on trying to figure that out. Seriously. You will never come across an answer that will please you and you can drive yourself crazy trying to find out.

New kitchen cabinets look great! The light color really brightens and modernizes the kitchen. At a store, you can easily spend $10-15K (or more) for a kitchen that size.
