Finally finished a couple of clocks!

These are from Klockit parts & plan--the Anniversary Clock. They were intended as Christmas gifts, but I guess I missed the deadline a little.

Wood is the Mystery Wood from an old "workbench" top, sanded and planed and glued up. It probably had lead paint on it, but of course I didn't think of that when I sanded off the paint! Anyway, I think it's mahogany. Finish is a coat of shellac as a sealer, then a coat of mahogany oil stain, a coat of antique cherry gel stain, and three coats of shellac on top. Lastly a coat of wax.

Sorry--I didn't realize the pic didn't upload. Can't get it to upload now, either. Will add when I can.

I like those! Are the "works" the type that spin? My grandmother had one or those and it always fascinated me as a kid.

Nice! Clocks are fun, and you've done a great job.

The Clockit kits are very good, IMO. Takes the worry out of the mechanics/electronics for a woodworker.

Yes, they have a motor in the base that turns the pendulum back and forth. At least one of them does. The other one I need to send back to Klockit for a replacement.

The kits included all the hardware. You purchase the plans separately. I learned a LOT while building them, namely that accurate templates are essential. And it's a good idea to finish the three pieces before you put them together. And that shellac straight from the can is a little too thick to brush on smoothly. And said shellac shouldn't be more than a year old, or it takes forever to dry.

Next clock project is a school clock for the living room wall.
