    Large Turned Candal Holder

I picked up a wood lathe and have been trying my hand at turning. This is a oak segmented candle holder. It was made by gluing up a lot of small strips of oak then turning them into the candle holder. It is 10 1/2" high and 3 1/2" in diameter. The finish is a wipe on poly.

Very nice. Is this your first turning? If so it might motivate me to pick up a lathe also and try my hand at it.

The first pic kind of makes it look like a goblet of some sort.

Pretty much, I have turned some handles for files. Go for it! It is a lot of fun.

That looks good and also a great idea on using those scrap pieces.

That looks great John! Keep it up and post some more work!

I want to start some turnings like this but I figure I know where it will lead - more work!

That would work VERY well for the candles LOML likes! Nice job John.

Very nice looking, John. I don't know "squat" about turning as I haven't touched a lathe since HS shop a long time ago. What I remember about it was that it was almost addictive to have shaving flying off of a mounted peice of stock.

I wasn't interested in the end product as much as the thrill of those shaving flying off. Not a clue as too why?

Love the look, woodwork that is also artwork. My first thought when I saw it was a goblet also. Next project for lathe maybe? Great gifts!

Coming from a guy that knows nothing about turning I’d have to say it looks good to me!

Nice job, John - I like the finish. What type of glue are you using to bond the small stock?

                      Just plain old Titebond glue.
