    Barrister Bookcase

I finally finished my bookcase project. It took a bit longer than I expected but I think it turned out ok.
I used QSWO and Red Oak plywood for the case. Minwax Provincial stain and Minwax satin poly.
Now I have two more cases to make to add the stack. Thanks to everyone who helped out with my questions.

    Very Nice!
Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that! -Rocky Balboa-

Wow, you really got those ray flecks to pop! Looks great. I must have missed the questions, but tell us more about the joinery and techniques that you used.

Nice work! Is the top removeable so the cases can fit together?

Wooooa, outstanding. I too want to hear more on the joinery and if you allowed for stacking of future cases. As far as taking longer than anticipated, that's the order of the day for my projects!

                    Looking good!

I especially like the figure on a couple of the boards on the top, and the one on the bottom rail/stile (not sure which is which on a flip-up top hinged door).

                        Thanks for the kind words.
I used stub tenon and groove joinery for the case sides and the door. There is a pretty good lumberyard not too far away from me and they have quite a pile of QSWO. I picked through it till I found the pieces with the rays I liked. I tried to use the best pieces for the 3/8" panels I planed down for the sides and the door parts.
I used the biscuit joiner I bought from Sarge to line up the carcass while the glue set. There are biscuits holding the feet to the arched boards on the base also.
The base is fastened with screws to the cabinet you see here. The plans call for each cabinet to be screwed together rather than some of the rail configurations I see in antique shops. The top will be screwed on once I get the other two cases done.

I had a lot of fun making it. If I were to start over, I would fill the grain before applying finish and probably go with shellac vs poly. If I weren't making mistakes and learning, this wouldn't be any fun.
