More artsy than I first envisioned it.

Boy, this isn't how I initially saw this project coming out when I started but it sort of took on a life of it's own. It's more artsy than I wanted but it's going to be installed in the small bathroom at the cabin. I ended up using old, wooden spools for the door knobs and those were going to be halves of pine trees in my mind. I'm already having issues with the leather hinges sagging but like the wife says, the dragging places in the paint will become 'real' distress points. For all you fine woodworkers, you have been warned - LOL!

Edit: Now that it's posted you can't see that the cloud on the stands out from the sky by 1/2". The mountain tops are beveled on both sides so that there is relief from the parts behind it -one mountain range stands out from the other. THe pine trees in the foreground are also cutouts which are glued on. The flash gave tem more highlights than are actually there and the sky' is not as solid as it seems to appear here. It's more llike the mountains but with the grain of the brush strokes going horizontally. I'm likingit less and less.

Cool artwork. Should make a great conversation piece in a cabin!

I like it. If the hinges deteriorate you can replace them with something else. But I really like the colors and the theme, and I think it is far more appropriate for a cabin bath than a Krenov-style cabinet.

        I think it is ideal.

It's all a matter of what your wife likes and what you can live with. It's a nice piece of work and a great conversation piece.

I don't have a scroll saw but the 3/8 bandsaw blade sort of defined the curvatures to some extent. I flipped the mountains over and did the relief cut following the front cut. It removed some of the 'height' of the cut but that turned out to be OK, I guess.

Yes, she helped me when I got stuck or needed an opinion. The 'conversation' comment gave me a chuckle. I can just imagine someone calling from the bathroom and asking what the heck it's supposed to be -LOL!

              Hey Chiz,

You could probably sell that in a NY SOHO Gallery for a couple of grand, no kidding.

That's very cool. I like the art work. At first it appeared painted, but the depth adds visual interest. Well done.

Bruce... buddy, we have to talk - LOL! It's not that good - really!

Keith, it is paint. Artists acrylics but I applied it with a dry brush technique (like I even know what that is) and then three coats of Minwax Polyacrylic since it's going to be in a bathroom. The main cabinet is done with three left over interior latex paints colors from past home paint jobs. White went down first, green second and the yellow I actually bought for the project - from the discard rack at Lowes. The rest of the lumber came from the scrap rack in the shop. Cheapskate was to be one of the hallmarks of this project.
