    Some pens for friends....

I have finally scored some shop time over the holidays, and I have just about finished my current "big" project. While waiting for glue to dry, I made some pens for my Mother, some friends, and one for me. (I'm so selfish) I have come to really like the cigar pen kit sold at Rockler, it makes a nice pen. The other is a streamline 7mm. The cigar pens are curly maple and the streamline is cherry.

      Nice pens!!! Nicely finished!!

I used to turn pens/pencils, but I was never too happy with the quality of the pen/pencil mechanisms or hardware so I eventually stopped making them. Pens would quickly stop working, lead would not feed, etc, etc. I had purchased pen/pencil kits from a number of suppliers in past. I wonder if the pen kits from Rockler are any better than others (?) I'll have to find my mandrels (no small feat), and try turning some new ones.

Nice pens they look very professional. I have made a few out of curly maple as well and I like the way they turn and finish. I think the girls like them. I'll have to give the kit from Rockler a try. I just finished a Gentlemen's rollerball Pen from CSUSA and it was a very nice kit in Rhodium made with cocobola. Folks seem to like getting pens as gifts. Keep at it, I love making them.
