        Sarge sorry I missed this when you first posted it a few days ago. Looks great! You mentioned a long tenon. Is this a cross grain glue up? How are you accounting for wood movement?

          Thanks so much, Black Walnut. The mortice is cut vertical in the leg as it stands for the foot-board itself and the tenon iin the foot-board itself is indeed cross grain. The tenon rest on the bottom of the leg mortice and I left a whopping 7/8" at the top open in the mortice for movement.

          With the molding.. the tenon runs the opposite direction in the leg as it runs across it vertically. Again cross grain. Left 5/8" open play in that portion of the mortice.

          Probably more in both cases than needed for red oak.. but I had plenty of tenon to work with. Plenty of room for expansion and still an abundance of glue area on the tenon. The mortice is around 3/4" deep and the shoulders of the tenon hide the expansion gap of course.
