    Kitchen Bench

    Here ya go.

The arch and post. I routed the post and made the arch myself. I wish I'd made the arch a little taller. I added some cove moulding to it as a cheat to give it a little more definition.

And the bench. The only thing I was able to reuse from the original was the front panel in the 3rd pic. Everything else I built. I also think I will add a piece to cover the gap at the corner on the mitered seats. I had to gap it that much for clearance to open it. I should have just made it a simple butt joint since there will eventually be a cushion over it anyway.

Neat, David! I'm not sure about that post, though. Could I see it with no post before making up my mind?

Awesome job, David! Can't show that to my LOML because that is one of the things on my to do list for '08. Thanks for sharing!

No pics of the no post.

And Omar, it is poplar/pine. No MDF. The bench front, ends and seats are poplar. The back and kneewall is MDO. The post is pine, arch sides are poplar and the arched piece is kerf-cut MDO.

Nice work Davey. Bet you're glad it's done. BTW, did you get a permit, and do you have a license to build furniture like that?

The women in my house go to bed early so I have to do something. Can't work in my shop. Actually, most of the painting was done after they did go to bed. It is quiet work and I don't need to worry about little fingers in the wet paint. I figure I have 25hrs in the building/installation. Hard to tell - that was scheduled across several weekends around naps, other house stuff, life, etc.

Slick, David! Since cushions will be used, I wouldn't worry about the small gap.
