    The front of the lid is supported by a 1/8th inch thick by 3/8 inch wide strip that is in a dado inside the front edge of the box, room was left and felt pads are on it to prevent the wood on wood slamming noise when the lid is closed.

      The lid stop is below the level of the lid thumb hole. The front of the lid has a dado cut down its length to make it easier to clasp when opening the lid.
