    Shelves for shoes

    Hello Forum!

I've had a BT3000 for several years and finally am getting around to all those projects I've been putting off. I have never been much of a joiner and my kids got me Kreg jig for father's day which has gotten me back into it.

I'm also using my projects as a way to teach myself the ways of blogging. My honey-do list is online for my family to keep tabs on me!

I'm glad I stumbled upon this forum - my BT3000 is such a cool saw and I'm glad folks took the time to have a website supporting it.

Looks great--I'm sure there's room in there for one pair of yours.

And welcome to a great board.

Thanks Linear! Yes, my lovely wife has allowed me a small portion of the top shelf!

Very nice! sounds like your wife and mine are very similar; I would have been given a small corner as well!

Nice job on a practicle project.

I would rethink that lower coat hook. Even with the side of the cabinet recessed a couple of inches, it's a good place to catch your arm when you are walking by. Assuming you have kids, and it's for them, maybe add a narrow shelf above it with the end round.

Wow, that is beautiful. And you're going to put shoes on there? I think you're nuts. Way too nice for shoes.

It's already got my daughter's jacket on it - no way I could remove it now!

The small wall section perpendicular and behind that side keeps anyone from catching themselves on the hook. Good observation - thanks for the comments!

nicely done! you sure took your time to finish it perfectly. i lack that type of patience when it comes to finishes. besides, my wife better not see that picture, otherwise, she will expect me to keep the area outside of the house as clean as yours!

so what type of wood did you use? what did you use to sketch up the shelf?

                      regards,

Thanks FPIC! Check out my blog for the step by step if you'd like.

Actually the wife is responsible for finishing - I also lack that patience (the same way I'm not much for fishing either, probably too much caffeine in my life... well unless it's fishing off a boat in the Gulf or the Keys.. ahh wouldn't that be the thing for this morning, now where was I?.... oh yeah, and I get easily distracted as well, which is why I'll never build the same thing twice...)

Our deal is that I build it, she fills in all the mistakes (not a trivial task) sands and finishes it. It's worked qute well for wainscotting, crown-molding, and other trim projects in the house and now it's translated quite well into this project.

She also keeps the garage clean - or tries too while I am working doubly hard to keep it a mess! I am truly a blessed man!

It's birch (or similar) plywood and poplar, all from overpriced Home Depot and/or Lowes.

It was modeled in Sketchup first. Sketchup (now owned by Google) is my favorite free software - perfect for this type of project! Here's a link to my 3D models.
                        Thanks:
