Solid Cedar Bandsaw Box, Hobbit House

An Eastern Red Cedar (Aromatic Red Cedar) out among the hardwoods died a few years ago and I have been slowly cutting it and resawing. I decided to try a box out of a solid piece. The center of the box is the center pith of the tree. I wanted to show the rings along the length of the box, but wasn't thinking ahead to future problems.
The finishing was a real pain since practically all of the box came out endgrain. The finish is wipe on poly preceeded by several coats of Sealcoat, which for the first time didn't help with finish absorbtion.
The 'crack' on the top in the sapwood is an inclusion.
Thanks for taking time to look.

Nice piece of wood and beautifull work! Looks great!

.... and what is it with counting days? Did you mentioned it somewhere and I missed it?

        Ken,
Beautiful work. I tried a bandsaw box a while back and thought I would never get it sanded to my satisfaction so I know what you mean.

Very nice box. I agree about the sanding. I always thought these things should be called Sand Boxes instead of Bandsaw Boxes, just based on the amount of time you spend.

Now you get the ohhh's and ahhhhh's That's just down right spiffy Ken. Wish I were that creative. BTW, did you put A/C in your shop or has it just cooled off more up there? For the most part it's still to hot down here to work. Pat

Good design, I also prefer the second image - demonstrates the timber and highlights the design - well done!

Great design. The grain is fantastic and it looks like you solved the finish problems.
