    Finished cutting boards

I have been working on a few cutting boards this week. One for my sisters birthday, one is for a co-workers wife for their anniversary and one for mom just because I thought she needed one.

This is my first attempt at cutting boards. I was unsure of how to finish so I went to Rockler and the gentleman suggested Kerf's Wood Cream for the finish. www.kerfswoodcream.com

Certainly all 3 ladies will be very happy to get those, Grant. All 3 boards are beautiful. Your Mom's is especially nice.

I'm a sucker for mixing wood tones with a natural finish so I immediately fell for these beauties. Veeery nice work!

Great looking cutting boards! I am particularly impressed with the last one. I hadn't heard of Kerf's Woodcream beofre. How do you like it after having used it?

bthere, I liked the Kerf's pretty well. It is kind of expensive but I think but it does work well. If you look in the one picture there is a small pink touch up roller that I used to apply it with. That worked well and gave me a nice uniform finish.

After a second look it appears that the Kerf's finish really brought out the colors of the wood. I like those finishes that are easy to apply and bring out the beauty of the wood. I also dislike those finishes that give a plastic look to the project. Very nice work, I'm inspired to make some cutting boards.

                            Great looking boards.

I make a lot of cutting boards and finish them with a mixture of bee's wax and mineral oil. I melt the wax in a pyrex bowl in the microwave (be very careful, the wax will be VERY HOT) and then pour in some mineral oil. (No particular formula involved.) Apply a generous amount and let it soak in overnight.

It is less expensive than Kerf's. I paid $11 for a 1 lb. chunk of bee's wax at Hobby Lobby and $1.50 for the mineral oil at Wal-Mart. It goes along way if you are making cutting boards in any quantity like this.

                            Keep up the beautiful work.
