I built this for a coworker to put in his garage/game room. With all the rain we have had, and working outside it was slow going.
Red Oak plywood for the panels and shelves with Red Oak stock for the frames and trim. The stain is Minwax Red Oak finished with Gemini Satin Furniture Finish on the cabinet and Waterlox Crystal Clear Urethane for the top and footrail.
The posts were turned from the cutoffs from the footrail to prevent the top from sagging.
I used a drawer lock for the cabinet and made a catch plate and the keeper for the right door from a brass hinge leaf.
The edge of the top was 2 pieces glued together with a rabbet in the bottom piece. There were a few small gaps in the joint line and, rather than trying to fill them, I covered them with a Curley Maple inlay.
I delivered it last night after work. As it turns out, Monday was his birthday so this was his present. I guess he was pleased, since he upped the price I gave him by $25 and threw in a Longneck Bud over a few games of 8 ball!
