    Jewelry Armoire

I finally finished the jewelry armoire for my wife. Believe it or not, I've been working on this thing going on a year. I kept getting sidetracked with other things including new tools for the shop, which meant I had to make accessories for them! Anyway, it is made from cherry, my design. The only complicated joinery was the carcass where I used sliding dovetails for all the drawer dividers. Finish was shellac, then a glaze of burnt umber artists color, followed for a few coats of wipe on poly, rubbed out with 2f and 4f pumice, then 2 coats wax. The pictures are pretty poor. The wood actually matches better than it looks due to the glazing step. It does have a secret drawer too.

      That is stunning!

Honestly -- I have been looking for a plan for something just like that ... only about 2ft tall instead of a piece of floor furniture ... But that is beautiful!

      Well Done!!

You've done yourself proud, Todd. Did you dovetail the drawers? I count eight drawers plus the secret one. That's a lot of precise work.

This should get you enough points for several power tool purchases!

Super job, Todd. That looks better than some I've seen in furniture stores.

Looks like a million bucks. Looks like it could hold a million bucks in jewelry, too.

You did a great job, it looks great. I'd never build a jewelry case that big for fear my wife would want to rush right out and fill it

Thanks everyone, and believe me, my wife will have it full in no time. I didn't dovetail the drawers, it just became too much. I don't have a good dovetail jig, and really wasn't up to hand cutting 8 drawers. I did a rabbet/dado joint on the boxes. The base Is M+T though, not biscuits, and the mirror and lid supports are all mortised in.

Mighty fine work, I’d like to hear more about rubbing out wipe on poly as I’ve heard it can be difficult. From what I can see the finish looks superb.
