    Turned out OK

After a long absence due to 2 moves, a divorce, and various other crises, I'm now back in the woodshop. Here are some pics of my latest work--a wine bottle stopper made from birch that I myself cut up, and pens made from lacewood and curly maple

Sorry for quality of pics, but the only digicam I have right now is my cellphone.

      Welcome back Jeff.

I learned something new today on the lathe. Make sure that there is no debris in the Moris Taper when you put your mandrel in.

I have two blanks that are VERY lopsided. They are round, but one side is 1/4 inch and the opposite side is 1/8th inch.

You didn't forget anything while you were away from the shop. Good job on all the pieces.

              Very nice.

I've contemplated a lathe in my shop and seeing some of the neat things you can do with them are making me start to look into buying one.

Well, it looks like you are getting all round on us! Enjoy the turning. I like the lacewood! All my girls have one.

I learned something today in pen making too! I learned how to make a pen without a mandrel! Works great! NO bushing problems with this setup.

I took a 3/4 by 6 inch aluminum rod, turned one end so that it was 1/2 inch diameter by 3/4 in length so that it would fit in my 1/2 in 2 MT drill chuck.

Then I put the drill chuck into the head stock, inserted the rod into the drill chuck and turned a taper on the other end.

With this setup I have two points to mount the blank: the live center on the tail stock and the dead center on the head stock (in the drill chuck).

                        Nice work, Jeff!

Too bad about the divorce. Hang in there and see the kids as often as you can.
