Retirement Gift from My Golfing Buddy
This was given to me by my good friend when I retired two years ago. Holds 35 bottles. Made from a throw away wine barrel from the Robert Mondavi vineyards. I have trouble keeping it full.Last edited by ragswl4; 12-20-2008, 05:10 PM.RAGS

I am really looking for single bottle stands. The type that stand at an angle and the weight of the bottle holds itself up.Last edited by gad5264; 06-07-2007, 09:20 AM.Comment

I did one of those for my buddy, he makes his own wine and had a bottle win a ribbon at a local farm show. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of it.
I think there was a short article in Woodsmith (IIRC) about making them out of scrap. I'll try to remember to look for the article. If it ain't broke.. don't fix it!!!... but you can always 'hop it up'

Funny, I was thinking of those when I saw the title of this article. We received one of those as a wedding present, and I will be duplicating it as christmas gifts for several people. I'll post some pics of it when I get home.Comment

I made a couple for Christmas presents using the description out of the November 2005 issue (issue 166) of "WOOD" magazine, page 87.
A brief description is as follows:
1: use a blank of wood 1 7/8 X 2 1/2 X 9 1/8 inches. Lay the blank on its side (2 3/4 inch down) and then kind of trace the measurements on it to cut out. The base of the piece (what sits on the table) is 2 3/4 X 1 7/8 inches. The sharp angle (top side of wood) is 43* and the wider angle (bottom side) is 125*.
2: the bottom side of the wood is 7 3/8 inches long. The hole center (bottle neck goes thru) is 2 3/8 inches from the top end of the piece (measured on the bottom side). The hole itself is 1 3/8 inches in diameter and is 90* through the bottom side of the piece (as opposed to the top side). The narrow top end has a 3/16 inch roundover for appearances.
Sorry, if this does not make sense. Maybe you just better get the magazine article.

I agree, Jay. These things are typically used for display though. Not storage. I have also heard that opening a bottle of wine can have a bad effect on storage as well. That is unless you can screw the cap back on tight enough.LeeComment
