    More Pens

Glued up 10 blanks on Saturday adn Turned them on Sunday. Had two explode on the lathe, one explode on the penmill and one set with some chip-out, I'll have to see about fixing them later. I have got to start drilling straighter.

But I did get these 6 ready.

Cocobolo, Kingwood, Rosewood Clipless, Another Rosewood, Tulipwood and Zebrawood.

Your pens are starting to look really nice.

If you're getting explosions and chip out, it's usually because the wood hasn't been properly bonded to the brass tube? What kind of glue are you using? Are you roughing up the tube with some 100 grit sand paper?

Depending on the wood and the kit I'm using, I like either gorilla glue for it's expansion properties or epoxy. I've found that while CA dries nice and fast, it doesn't fill in gaps enough or give the best bond with some woods.

I need to post some pics of my pens.

I'm using 2 part epoxy. I may try the poly glue (I have Elmers version of Gorilla) this coming week. the chipouts were my fault, and are very minor (can see maybe 1/16th of the brass at the end). The problem on the mill was partly my drilling and partly the wood. I do rough up, but use 400 grit paper.

Thanks for the comments everybody. I'm still learning and finding pleasing shapes that I can try. I found I REALLY like the Cocobolo and Kingwood. Those two are just polished with MM and wax, nothing else.

Nice pens, Mike. The way you chose to photograph them really adds alot to the presentation.
