    Drop-top desk

    Hi all,

I've been lurking for a while, thought I'd make my first post here.

This is a desk I made for my mother. It's solid cherry and cherry ply, made from free plans I got online, modified to suit my tastes.

Very nicely done, looks great. The secretary style desk has been on my project list for awhile now. Can you point to where you found the plans online? Welcome to the forum. You'll find a lot of helpful people here as I'm sure you've already seen...

Very nicely done! Got my mind to working on the need for something similar. If my wife saw it, that would be what she would be asking for.

It is obvious from looking at the desk that you have experience in woodworking! Those great looking tapered legs are a little beyond what "most" first timers to woodworking can do (without help). If you ARE a newbie to woodworking, you have a natural talent!

      WELCOME! Keep posting.

Beautiful piece, Al! One of the best things about working with Cherry is that the wood becomes more rich and beautiful over time.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I've done woodworking of various types(shelves, bookcases, etc), as well as home improvement projects for a number of years, but this is my first attempt at "real" furniture. I'm pleased with the results, and my mother was very touched.
The tapered legs weren't that difficult with a taper jig for the TS. They didn't come out that well, but, like most of the finished product, only I know where to look for the defects. I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks that way about finished projects.
Jim, I thought I got the plans from Popular Mechanics, but I just did a quick search and could find them. I'm pretty sure I still have the pdf on another computer, I'll get back to you on that.
This was a fun project, next up: kitchen cabinets!
