    Folding Bench

I faithfully copied this one as detailed in Woodsmith #136. WS' projects have always held an appeal to me for simplicity and extra attention to detail, much appreciated by the amateur in me.

Completed it 6 months ago, just got around to organizing the pics to post.

what appealed to me about this was the ease of its folding mechanism, and it's stability :

and it is pretty light, being cedar :

Note the aluminium 'hinge' at the back - all shopmade :

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

I had thought, from the title of the posting, that it would be a folding _woodworking_ bench. What a pleasant surprise! Absolutely beautiful!

That is a great bench. I love the straightforward design and the portability. What material and finish did you use?

Nice bench. Have to look up the issue. That would be great to take to the park!

Really nice job and clever design. I'm curious how you made the curved legs.

Very nice!! Do you have a picture with a closer look of the hinge, underside?

That's a very nice looking bench and the ability to fold up is a real plus.

Nice job on a well designed piece. I believe my neighbor Bill will be interested in the pictures as he builds out-door furniture for a living. He has got some clever designs for chairs and swings, but I don't think I have ever seen one by him that folds up. He has some very high end clientele and I bet they would like the idea of a fold up bench.

                              Again... well done!
