    Walnut Entertainment Cabinet

I just finished this cabinet today. It was for a friend of mine who needed an entertainment component cabinet.

Their TV is mounted on the wall and the needed somewhere to put DVD's and the other electronic stuff.

This is my first project that I really got into using hand planes and I am now hooked. I had a master show me how to uses/sharpen/configure hand planes and I picked up a Lie Nielson rabbet block plane. I don't know how I ever went without one!

My friend was looking for a specific color for the cabinet so I was forced kicking and screaming into staining it, which I normally won't due, but I think it looks beautiful.

I keep a journal of all the projects I do that you can seee here...

Here is what the finished piece looks like.

That's nice work Aaron. I also like the wood left natural but everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

Fantastic, Aaron! Shame to stain a wood as beautiful as Walnut, though.

Very good craftsmanship Aaron. The design is kinda unique, I llike it. Shame about them insisting on the stain tho.

I like it, stain and all. And I think the stain matches the style of the piece. And I think the hardware works great, too!

Wow that looks really nice. If the friend insisted it be stained, not sure I woul dhave used walnut for that.

Thanks guys. The stain was kind of heart breaking to do, but it was good practice.

Well done Aaron! Seems borderline criminal to stain walnut! Nice write up of your crafting process. I think if you had a shaper and big bucks for a custom profile shaper cutter the top would have been a breeze. Your solution did it justice though. Was the interior stained as well to match? Any figure in the walnut or did you use all straight grain stock?

The interior was not stained. That would have been way too much work for something that is never seen.

The walnut was just straight grained. No way would I have stained figured walnut. =)
