Maple Wall Unit With Crystal Display

This wall unit I originally made as a Christmas surprise for my wife before we bought our present home. It’s a whitewash maple, very simple (I only had one week). A couple of years ago she got hooked on Swarovski crysal. Naturally, I had to make some display area for them. So I took two openings on either side and made blue velvet steps, and used the existing glass shelf that was the top shelf as the top for the display, so the lighting would shine through. Made the door to drop down so there wouldn’t be any exposed hinges, and having a door in the way while cleaning the inside. It’s 18” wide, 18” high, and 16” deep.

It's very nice...but what's that strange looking machine to the right of the black electronic boxes? Looks like a reel-to-reel tape recorder. I thought the last of them had finally been relegated to a museum.

Hahahahahahahaha. Yeah my museum. Believe it or not I've got two of 'em. I've got over 100 tapes that I'm in the process of trying to convert to CD's. Adding insult to injury, I've got two turntables (those very expensive machines with special needles that track at weights not measurable). Got to get about 75 albums (those flat 12" vinyl discs that look like they're from outer space), onto CD's too.

My one R/R in 1967 still puts out some music. It's something about how the equipment looks. I get the same drool when I see 2 four barrels or tripple two barrels under a hood.

That's a real nice project, and well done. LOML would like it too.

Very nice. The velvet steps really make everything look precious.

I collect eggs. Some crystal, rock, quartz gold, silver, etc. I think I need to steal your idea.

I don't know if you want to show your old A Team members your crystal kitties and bunnies.

Is it drool or an upset stomach when you fill up the gas tank????

I think our gas prices have passed the point now that I can not fill up my tank (36 gallons) on one swipe of the credit card.

                    Nice cabinet to BTW.

We still have a bunch of those vinyl discs and a few cassette tapes, plus equipment to play them on. Two sets, in fact, because we both had stereos when we met.

My wife hates to throw stuff away and the amplifiers and speakers still work well so one set is in the living room we never use and another is in boxes in the garage.

I can do without cassette tapes but replacing the vinyl with CDs would cost a small fortune.

That is a beautiful wall center. Your way to display the crystal is very nice and sets off each piece.
