This wall was a large coat/shoe closet in our family room. 75% of the old
closet is now extra space in my wife's new office (pics to come soon).
The old space was walled up. A smaller closet was framed in, drywalled, etc.
That's a sheet of a beadboard on the wall.
So we could still have storage for more coats and stuff, I copied this design
from something in Pottery Barn. The only constraints was that it had to hold
those baskets.
The top unit is all MDF. Primed and painted. Heavy.
The rails and stiles on the legs of the bottom unit are poplar. All the large
flat surfaces are plywood with a 1 1/2" of poplar biscuit/glued to the front
edge.
I built these suckers to be strong. We don't have kids yet, but when we do
these will be the first line of defense when they come home.
