I recently finished this Fishing Rod Holder that will hold 15 rods and mounts to the ceiling. I had no plans but just looked at many pictures on-line to come up with this idea. In this room, the only room besides my shop the wife has not taken over, there is a pop-corn ceiling. Until I get around to removing the pop-corn ceiling I made two oak blocks for each rod holder. Each oak block has four holes in it and using 3-1/2" screws, 3/8" nylon spacers between the blocks & ceiling, they attach to the ceiling using drywall anchors. This way I get a flush even attachment to the ceiling without knocking down so much pop-corn.

Birdman,
Looks great. I have looked into making one of these before. I have seen many on the chartered boats that I have been on.
One question...what was your spacing between the holes and the center on the slots?

Matt, this was my spacing. At first I was going to have all the reels on the same side, but quickly realized I would need about 9' of wood. When you put the reels on each end you can have rod holes much closer together.
The holes for the end of the rod ends (thickest part) are the larger holes and they are 1-3/4". I determined this size by measuring my largest rod end and increasing it by 1/4". The smaller holes are 1".
The spacing between the holes are not equal. The spacing between the large hole to small hole is 2-1/2". The spacing between the small hole to large hole is 3". This is repeated all the way across each board.
Make sure you start the first board with a large hole and the second board with a small hole. You also need to keep in mind that the slots you cut for the smaller holes so you don't run out of board on one end.
This may sound confusing, but once you lay it out on paper you will see what I mean. In order to have your rods parallel when in the racks you need to offset the holes to accomplish this. I took some thin, almost see through, craft paper to make a template to avoid having to cut multiple boards.
Hope this helps,
