    Quilt Rack, maple and walnut

For the last several years my mother has been working on a quilt for LOML and me, which we finally received last Christmas. Since our big Lab has poor manners and likes to sneak up on our bed when wet or muddy or even dry I thought it best to make a quilt rack to display my mother's handywork. This plan available from Grizzley was what I took my inspiration from. As many will remember I was routing the sliding dovetails for this project when I had a shop injury in early January. I used mortise and tenon joinery for the uprights to the feet joint and a variety of dovetails for the rest. Half lap for the lower rails. half blind (hand fitted) for the upper rails, and sliding to join the top end rails. The feet are clear maple, end stiles are walnut, and all the rails are birdseye maple. Finish is hand rubbed tung oil. It almost seems a shame to have to cover it up. Yet after careful thought I can't think of more fitting wood to display such a fine piece of art that my mother gave us.

Looks great and unless somebody attacks it with an axe it ought to last for a long, long time.
      Good work.

Nice quilt stand -- but check the white balance on your digital camera -- it looks like it's stuck on indoors (tungsten) -- that's why all the pictures are coming out blue -- The color temp of Tungsten is either 3800 or 3900 Kelvin ( can't remember) --- outdoors in 5000 Kelvin and even bluer on a cloudy day... It should be an easy setup to find. Your pictures will looks lots better.

Yep, I checked the meta data on your JPEG -- you shot this with a:
            Sony Cyber Shot.
            F3.8 @ 1/200 sec
with +0.7 EV bia ( Check that too set it back to zero )
the zoom was set to 6mm focal length
            Exposure was center weighted average
            and

The light source was set to Tungsten...

[Right click on the image in the Windows File Explorer] select properties from the context menu -- then details on the properties dialog...

Beautiful work, Mark! The contrasting wood showcases the joinery nicely.
