    Gentlemen's Box

Just completed this box for my Father Inlaw. He is 76 this year, has had 5 strokes, broken bones this past year, and a touch of Alzheimers. My wife and I wanted to make him something that was unique and special for him. This is what we came up with. He is a Christian man so we went with a cross on the top, and you can see the message inside.

The wood is Brazilian Cherry with tung oil only, no fancy joinery as I was in a hurry to complete this for Pop's birthday. My first attempts at relief carving. It's basswood with a coat of poly. Enjoy!

Very nice work. I like the carvings as an added touch. Are they just glued on the surface or are they recessed into the top?

Bet you are now tops on the favorite son-in-law list. That is to be a treasured gift. I'd say your first attempt at relief carving was a smashing success.
