    Corner Table

Well, this project is almost finished, so I will post it while I ask for some advice. This was one of my first wood projects, and my very first project with my own tools. Very satisfying. Some of my tools were donated to me form another member of this site, whom I would like to take a moment to thank. Thank again Mike!
The spot where I need some advice is in finishing the top of the table. As you can see in the pic., the top is ceramic tile, with a wooden frame. I want a real durable, thick, self leveling finish to put on top of both the wood, and the tile. Almost like the real thick, glossy clearcoat that you would find on a bartop or something. Some bars even put coins in the clearcoat to fool cheapscates!! Any know what that stuff is?

    Thanks in advance,

    Kevin

The only thing I can offer right now is a compliment: Very nice work for a first project! Is that mahogany?

I'm sure the finishing gurus will chime in with their suggestions.

Love it! I am planning on a ceramic tile top end table. Hadn't even considered a top coat like you suggest. But there have been previous BT3 posts. Hope someone answers 'cause my Sometimers Disease keeps me from remembering!

I think you are referring to an epoxy resin finish. Equivelant to several thousand coats of urethane.

There's KraftKote which would be a solid choice, there's System Three Mirror Coat, and also there's one more widely available product whose name is eluding me at present. My local yard has it, and I almost bought a pint of it, but the name just isn't coming to mind now.

That came out nice, first project or not.

I like the design and that each side is different. That adds a lot to my eye.

            Keep up the good work.

KUDOS on a first time project that looks so darn nice! I had a friend once who tried to use polyester resin to accomplish what you are trying to do. Hundreds of tiny air bubbles "killed" the project. I'm not familiar with the other products posted, so hopefully the bubble problem has been overcome.

                  Thanks everyone

Im not sure what kind of wood it is, just some old stuff that was given to me. The legs are definitely a different species than the top frame though. I appreciate the compliments, and the advice on the top finish.

That looks very sturdy. Beautiful job for a first, second or 50th.

You are looking for a two part epoxy finish. Check this out . . .

Very nice work Kevin - I did a project with the epoxy resin on a bar top long ago and it worked fairly well but the biggest problem we had was keeping the stuff where we wanted it. We wound up attaching a decorative piece of trim on the outside edges and then didn't worry about it.

I like the look of the stone in the table top. We seem to concentrate on all wood projects and adding the top like you did really makes it stand out. Good job.
