    Fireplace Mantel

Finally finished the firplace mantel and surround - the last piece of the "Living Room Project". The LOML saw this design at a local fireplace retailer with a price of $1900 installed (made from poplar). I begged her to let me try to copy it, so here it is for $40 worth of mdf. I wanted to make some aesthetic changes along the way but she refused.

    Thanks for looking.
    Greg

That's a mighty nice piece of work. You can buy a lot of tools with the money you saved.

Nice work and congratulations, Greg: that's a lot of savings! I think the Mantel Maker deserves a little visit to Woodcraft or Amazon.

That's a great piece of craftsmanship, Greg. You and the missus should be proud.
Sooooo, what new tools did you get with the $1860?? ;-D

That's a gross understatement! We all know how hard MDF can be on tools. Convince the Treasurer that you NEED to replace some worn/damaged items. About $465 should cover the costs. (That's only .25 on the dollar of the savings.)

That's not only excellent work, but your documentation was great too!

Beautiful work. I don't believe the $1900 job could look any better.

                        Looks great!

Q- Did you route out all the recessed areas.. or did you build a frame and attach it to the front of your main pillar box?

That is some really nice work. Is that a woodburning insert or is it gas?

Nice work Greg. I especially like the curved molding you did over the opening.
