    Red Oak Entertainment Center

We picked up a 40" Samsung LCD TV back in Nov., and decided to wall mount it. So the huge old EC had to go.
This is from Wood Magazine Oct. 2005, Issue 165. It has a small footprint but holds lot's of VCR tapes and DVD's in the drawers.
It presented one challenge. I didn't catch that if the drawings are followed the holes for the bottom drawer knobs hit directly centered on the bottom shelf, not just the shelf, but dead center on a screw head. So, the knob can't be installed with a screw. I finally used CA and a dowel to stick the *&^% knob on.

It is RO ply (2 sheets of 3/4" and 1/2 sheet of 1/2") and at least a million linear ft. of 3/4" trim! Solid RO also for the base.

Oh, I didn't do the doors because of where the IR sensors are on our equipment.

The finish is 3 coats of Zinnser Sealcoat followed by 5 coats of wipe-on poly, 7 on the top.

    Thanks for looking

        coincidence!

        Wow!!

        great minds think alike !!

i have been building up the courage to make this same piece for some months now ( http://www.bt3central.com/showthread.php?t=24345 ), finally have all the pieces cut, just the trim left to cut next. so any time this year, hopefully...

did you go biscuits for the base? i am planning mortise-tenon.
which shelf does the drawer knob interfere with, the one in the center section? or did you mean the drawer slides?

and yes, your finished project looks really slick, better than the Wood one!

Ken, WOOD could have waited a little longer to put THAT on the cover! Nice job. Even Campbell Brown looks better on it!

            Thanks guys.
rad, wish I hadn't missed your previous post. I used biscuits just because the plans said to. I usually M&T but this time I was determined to use a plan and not have to figure things out as I went along, as I usually do.
Pocket holes will do fine, or M&T, if I were doing it again I would use M&T. As someone mentioned in your posy, a long grain to long grain glue up for the feet would be fine too.
Look at the pic above with the drawer extended. Per the instructions, the center of the lower false drawer front is dead center with the bottom shelf in the drawer, so the knob screw cannot be run through from the backside of the drawer front to thread into the knob.

Well done, Ken. I remember that plan and it looks like you did a great job of it.

I think a "hanger bolt" might be what you needed (if I have the name right). It's got a machine thread on one end and a wood thread on the other. Thread it into the knob, then drive it into the hole from the front.
