    There are moments,

It seems to me that when you are constructing a piece of furniture that there are moments of gratification that just keeps us going. I normally experience several of these during a given project like for example the first dry fit where you just stand back and look at the proportions and design and feel good about it.

Another big one for me is during finishing. I take a lot of time with my finishing and I can spend a week or more finishing a piece. But there is that time from when you go from the sealer to the top coat and the figure of the piece you are working on just pops! Man it just makes the piece worth it to me and reassures you on your choices of woods.

Right now I am building a new end table for my wife and I typically apply the finish seperatly to the top from the rest of the carcass and assemble after both pieces are dry. Here is a quick shot of that first top coat. Walnut Burl veneer surrounded by 1/8” Ebony and then framed in Walnut.

You are right about the feelings on projects. Right again with the steps. That is an absolutely glowing top. It certainly looks backlit to me and that is why figured wood is so dang purty. Can't wait to see the whole shebang.

Wow, that's georgeous! Ummm, I have a whole shop full of tools for sale now--there's no way I can get close to that quality of work. The top is incredible!

Wow Ken. That is gorgeous. LOML looked at it and asked if I could do that. I said sure as soon as I stop pouring concrete kitchen counters.

Beautiful, Ken. Did you resaw the veneer?

                          That is beautiful work!

I agree 100% with your comments on finish. Putting extra time on finish makes projects well worth the extra effort. To me, the difference in a good finish and a great finish is the amount of extra time put in.
