    My Workbench

    Hi All,
It looks like I have gotten to a point where I needed to make a workbench. The 3/4 ply on two sawhorses wasn't cutting it any longer. My goal was to keep the cost down and try to use some of the material I had laying around. I found an old 2005 Fine Woodworking magazine article that showed how to make a bench out of two sheets of 3/4 ply, one sheet of 3/4 MDF, and some screws. I added a front bench vise from Woodcraft. For just about $140 I was able to build a bench to suite my needs and budget. I know it very bear bones, but my hope is to add a few drawers to fill in the bottom.

Looks a lot better than my 3/4 MDF/saw horses!

Very nice! Good job. I thought that was an excellent article. My dad wants to
get into WWing now that he's practically retired. I think this would make a
                great first project for him.

Looks very sturdy! One of the main if not the main thing in a good workbench.

RCP612 - Yes, the legs are 5 ply with the middle ply as two separate pieces. There are two 3.5" gaps. They act as a mortise for the two stiles. I then attached the stiles to the legs with glue and 3" deck screws (square drive screws really make life easy).

ATGCPaul - Loan your father some clamps. I used every clamp I own, and it still took me two days to glue everything up!

Thanks for the good words everyone.
