    First Project

My wife gave me a the Craftsman 21829 a few weeks ago as an early Christmas present. So, I made this sewing chest from a plan in Wood Magazine for her present. This is the first project I have used this saw for and the biggest project I have done since high school wood shop class (12 years ago). I am sure I could do a better if I made it again but she likes it and can't find the mistakes that I had to fix so I count this one as a success.

Very nice. If you know how to hide the mistakes you're doing great. I bet there are very few projects ( above beginner level ) that are mistake free. Knowing how to hide mistakes is a great skill.

I can't believe that is your first. Darn fine job and looks really good. You should be proud of it as I'm sure you are. Good job.
May you die and go to heaven before the Devil knows you're dead. My Best, Mac

Do you happen to have a copy of those plans or a link where I can buy them? My wife just got a sewing machine and this might be a nice gift for her.

Thanks for all the kind words! I really enjoyed making it but I would prefer someone else do the finish and sanding.

                    mpauly,
I got the plans from issue #88 June 1996 of Wood Magazine. The project was called "Chairside NeedleCraft Center". I don't see the plan online but you can buy the back-issue on this page http://store.woodstore.net/is88jun19.html. I have had pretty good luck in the library finding back issues so that might be an option for you.

Some further details.... It is about 27" high and the box is about 12"w x 21"l. I used red-oak and walnut from the local HD. The finish is three coats of poly that I sanded with 220 between coats and buffed with 000 steel wool when I was done.

I may have made a mistake and set the bar for her presents too high now. I have an order for a sewing machine cabinet for her birthday.

I do believe I would classify that chest as a success!
