    my first pen

I turned my first pen this evening. I picked up a mini lathe and turning set, great deal actually.

Anyway, this is my first attempt, going to turn a bunch as Christmas presents, it's Wenge finished with crystal coat.

Very nice, reminds me of one my wife bought me years ago, same shape.

Nice pen. How was the Wenge to turn? I have a piece of scrap someone gave me that I was thinking of cutting into blanks for the Boss.

Thanks all, Pappy, the Wenge turned pretty nicely, though I got a small amount of chatter at one spot near the end of the blank. I think it had to do with grain orientation at that point. Overall not bad at all though.

I have enough curly maple to turn 500 pens or so, I'm hoping that turns well.

Nice work. I made a bunch of pens for Christmas a couple of years ago, they went over great.

                    People will love those gifts.

                            looks really nice.

and if you ever can get some hickory, turn some drumsticks. It is a lot funner to play on your own custom sticks.

That looks good. I'd like to try something like that, but I already have several tools I don't know what to do with.
