      I don't know alot about the more desirable woods, but AFAIK mahogany is a good choice for body or neck, and swamp ash and koa are desirable for the body. There are many that are alder too. I'm sure that some are better than others, but I'm not sure it's critical enough where you should avoid a nice piece of hardwood that you have in your inventory. Some of the experts could probably guide you better than me....

        We use poplar, ash, mohogany, alder, and bass as sound woods in our guitar/bass bodies. we use some others as a veneer top but it's only for looks. we use maple and rosewood for our necks and fretboards.
