Ottoman

The LOML was sitting on the couch one day and thought it would be nice to have something to put her feet on. Ironically, this was only a day or two after the June '06 issue of Workbench came out containing the plans for a storage ottoman. This is my attempt at recreating it. The majority was done in oak to match other furniture in the house. For the top storage cubby I used aspen instead of the more expensive maple. The outside was finished with mahogany gel stain and 4 coats of wipe on poly. The inside drawer and cubby were finished with light oak stain/poly. As you can see, I didn't bother finishing the inside of the frame. We had the top professionally upholstered (LOML didn't want to tackle that). That itself cost about as much as the rest of the ottoman!

Overall, it was pretty easy to put together. It was my first time using pocket hole joinery. I think I'll be using it a lot more in the future.
