    Pirate shelf...err...chimney cupboard.

This chimney cupboard is kind of based on the popular woodworking plans I found here -> http://www.popularwoodworking.com/features/fea.asp?id=1255

A couple of firsts in this one: first time routing dados, using the flush trim bit method on the face frame (much easier than sanding!), and first time making really tiny molding to hide a gap at the top.

I wasn't happy with how the top door came out (the panel was warped), and there was another chimney cubpoard posted here with glass doors that looked really nice. It was too late a glass door, but I removed the top door, put a bunch of pirate stuff in it, and now can't look at it without smiling. There has always been a bunch of pirate stuff lying around the room for some reason or another, and this kind of gives it all a place to sit I think I will leave the top door off, maybe just hidden in a closet somewhere in case somebody cute changes my mind.

The cupboard is made out of birch ply, poplar, and pine...the finish is minwax sedona red, followed by colonial american, and then wipe on poly rubbed out with steel wool. Thanks for looking.

great looking cabinet - nice job, just perfect for your pirate stuff!! i really like the finish too!

i think it might have been my version of the chimney cupboard you referred to, i posted it here about a month ago. i changed the original plans to put glass panels in the door instead of leaving them solid.

i really like the dark finish effect though, on your cabinet!
